"I like it. It's the kind of thing that i like to photograph. Great textures, lots of details to catch your attention, the patterned glass, the light, the maple keys."

"Cool. Well, since it's so easy then I'll say... leaves top-left and bottom-right are washed-out. :-) It's a very cool effect, but you'll have trouble submitting IR pictures anonymously now..."

"Hi Fraser. Eleanor is right there was no photoshop effect used. My D100 was converted at the sensor level to IR so no filter is needed. Exposure etc is TTL which is the beauty of doing the conversion. Using a filter to get the same effect makes it almost impossible to meter through the lens"

"Fraser: Bob had a camera converted to IR. It's the real thing. "

"Is this genuine IR or just a photoshop effect? If genuine, what exposure do you use through the IR filter?"

"Good stop action on the moving skirts. Just enough in and out of focus to show what was happening. Not easy lighting conditions with some girls in the sun and others in the shade. I would have positioned myself so that the background was all black and possibly used a flash to light the faces in the front."

"skin tone seems off. Not sure if it is a white balance issue. If shot in RAW should be able to adjust white balance easily in ACR. "

"great action shot but my eye is distracted by the b/g signs and especially the bright 86 in bottom R corner which could be cloned out....... the subject capture is so good I'd crop & blur b/g to make the eye focus on him."

"Although slightly unbalanced (would like to see more of the bikes to the right) the sharp action (especially the dirt specks) make this picture. Well done!"

"Nice shot Eleanor. The only suggestion I have is to remove the palm tree branches on the left as they are distracting. You could try cropping it tighter but keeping the center triangle to help frame the image. Overall I do like the image and the mood it portrays"

"I think I prefer the colour version. The yellow would make it a bit overpowering if you boosted the contrast too much, maybe reduce the saturation just a little?"

"Nice image especially for the conditions, Did you try a crop with about 10% off the left side?"

"I remember that day well. These guys were amazing. You caught the plate action well. How did you get the black background as that day there were a crowd of spectators in the background? Making the background black really helps in isolating the subject. Too bad it wasn't taken from the other side so that you could their facial view. I agree with Brenda that including more of the performer's body would have added to the impact of this image"
Bob Steer

"Great shot! Good lighting, nice capture of the action. No hot spots that I can see which would be difficult given the white plate and the black and white outfit. Only suggestion for improvement would be to include a little more of the person's body. I find he looks a little chopped off."

"I really like this image Hugh. It is really well seen and composed and reflects exactly what she is painting. The brush in the bottom left and center does distract and the is a tad on the warm side causing the artist skin tones to be off. Other than that I feel it is an excellent image. Well done!"

"This was an attempt at putting a sharpened and an unsharpened image together and selecting certain areas to show sharpening"
Hugh Fitzmorris

"A splendid classic s-curve, but the water has been a bit over-sharpened, making it look a little unrealistic."
Fraser McCrossan

"It's definitely better, but to me the colours still look a bit wrong, can't really put my finger on why. I checked the white-balance against the feathers, and it seems pretty close. Maybe it's just the yellowish grass colour that doesn't go well with the blue reflections."
Fraser McCrossan

"Tough shot... there is just enough motion blur on the wings to make them look OOF, but not enough to suggest motion. Head is a little too dark, burn tool might help."

"This picture tells a story, I'd love to see a cleaner version, perhaps not cropped quite so closely. Unfortunately, the paint effect is very distracting and has completely ruined an otherwise nice picture."

"The rather dull background hurts this image a little. The swans themselves would benefit from some sharpening, they look a bit flat. Still, a tricky shot to get."

"A lot of potential in this shot, but it's too dark, and the colours seem off. I think you need to sacrifice some feather detail to brighten it up a bit."

"Soft and subtle colours work very well. Composition is pretty much perfect. Perhaps a little too much empty snow in the foreground? Since the moon is rising this is obviously dusk... how long an exposure did you need?"
Fraser McCrossan
"This was a great, well-executed idea. The only improvement I can think of would be to very slightly fuzz-out the edges of the swans to blend in with the background. They look a little too well-defined. Try feathering your selection."

"Agreed, it's a different take. However, I find that the tones seem unnatural, looks like the birds have been pasted onto the clouds. I don't think they have, but that's how it looks."
Fraser McCrossan

"Like this ... it's different than the norm. Would suggest a vertical crop to remove both left and right blank space. There also appears to be a splotch on the sensor just below the bottom white cloud - at 7:00 o'clock to the bottom bird."

"I didn't see the birds at first ... but once I did, it sure puts it into perspective. Love the colour of the water. Improvement? I'd like to see the image flipped horizontally. I know, that's not how it was but I think the lines would lead into the picture better."
