  • "Ross a minus 2 on a fill flash might have helped here. Nice image." Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "Nice one, that was one of those magic mornings." Mark HelmInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I really like this shot, the wonderful tree center just makes the shot. The framing of the enteance with the trunk and the lower branch is great." Mark HelmInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I like this one, the colour is wonderful." Mark HelmInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Great textures. Nice DOF. Would suggest some items in the cornucopia for a complete composition." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Bill you captured the color and evening mood well. That light on the left is distracting once it is pointed out. " Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "*I* told you it was noisy, but you bought one anyway. :-)" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I agree this is a very nice shot, the colour is really great, certainly has a nice feel, unlike Brenda I find the light in the distance not distracting, the tracks leading that way makes me think of a warm cottage with a big fireplace. I thought the refections where hot pixs and find them distracting compared to the smooth surface of the rest of the ice. I would be happy with a photo like this. " Mark HelmInfo over 2 years ago
  • " Good suggestion, as usual Brenda you have great eye for detail. I didn't find my eye drawn to it until you pointed it out. Fraser showed what good work he could do with his G9 so thougt I'd post this since he convinced me to buy one. i'm still very pleased with it." Bill NiessenInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Very nice low vista. Like the two lead in lines. I'd like to see this shot a few minutes later when the sun is really casting light over the snow. One small suggestion would be to clone out the light on the left hand shore which competes for the sparkles in the snow. Nicely positioned." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Couple of reasons why I didn't include the stairs. There was a plastic grocery bag on it which would have been distracting. I also felt that the bench and stairs, which I do have a bit more of in the original, would have placed the door too much in the centre of the image. I almost want to remove the indication of the stairs altogether but then I suppose people would wonder how to get to the door." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "nice lines and colour, the bike really adds intrest, I think the only suggestion I have on this would to have slide to the left to include the stairs and the bench." Mark HelmInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I like the effect of posterizing the background to separate the subject from the background. It's a refreshing change from a blur effect. The only thing that would make this image a little better would be if the person was facing at a 45 degree angle instead of 90 degrees from the plane of the camera. This angle makes his ear the centre of interest and I don't think that is what you intended." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I like the position of the three sleds here. Background is better in the other two. Nice series." Bill NiessenInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I think this is the best of the 3 shots posted. I like the shadow on the ground which helps to convey the reality of the image." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Hi Stephen ... you are absolutely right. The lead in lines just lead you right out of the image. Next time, I'd move more to the left and make the lighthouse the final destination in the image." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "interesting lead in angle---personally would like to see more of light house as point of interest" Stephen YuleInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Bill, well done, captures the early morning mood, I think the foreground growth adds to the image" Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "Fraser, interesting you comment on the foreground, I felt the same way about the shot . I couldn't move any further right without getting wet. I thought about a tighter crop but really liked the tree-line adding another plane The mist was heavy near the ground and anything near a normal exposer just blew out all the background. I used polarizer filter and shot it underexposed and brought exposure back in raw for the final effect." Bill NiessenInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Just lovely. Can't quite decide if I'd like to see the foreground stems removed or if they actually make the image - they are slightly soft-focus in places. Bird is perfectly positioned. Background trees are sharp. Sun is overexposed, but just about right to convey the mood. Deserved first place!" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "This image seems slightly hazy or soft-focus. A little sharper and more contrasty would improve it greatly. Spider itself is a nasty-looking piece of work, wouldn't want to meet it in a dark alley." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Image has good impact, interesting color, looks much better here than when projected" Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "Very effective and I think the comp works. This is a subject I've wanted to tryout myself, (incense?), How would it look with inversed colours? " Bill NiessenInfo over 2 years ago
  • "When i happened by about four or five hours later he was belly up at the side of the road." Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "This is a bit scary Hugh, what happened next?" Bill NiessenInfo over 2 years ago
  • "This image could be from a Christmas card. Exposure seems bang on (snow is white, ice is grey). Corners top-left and top-right are slightly darkened - filter a little too thick or too many filters mounted? Standard lens on a digital SLR, maybe? Would benefit from mild sharpening. However, two thumbs up from me!" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Well, I shot it under exposed, as I do with most of my digital images. Never thought to treat it like snow but makes sense. This image is partially desaturated giving the grey apperance which I rather liked. Guess I was aiming for photographic art and not reality." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "One suggestion that I would make is not to rely on the in-camera meter to set the exposure hence the grey outcome rather than accurate white, unless this is what you wanted? If you want white you need to treat it the same way you do with snow and over expose by 2/3 to 1 stop" Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "Nicely understated, and I like the faint blue caste. I think I'd crop the empty space top and bottom and give it more of a panoramic look." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "nice shot and composition. The only suggestion I would make is to remove the branches and brush in the forground in photoshop as they are distracting. I would suggest trying to clone them out rather than cropping the image because I like the way the water flows down and to the left and would suggest trying to retain that in the image. You also could try removing the blurred branches on the right side of the image. The bridge abuttment or retaining wall on the right takes away from the naturalness of the scene. Removing it in photoshop would leave with the question of what to place in there in its place. If you crop the image then you may lose part of the waterfall runoff but you could try and see how it looks. Next time your presented with a similar scene it may be worth moving around with the camera to see if you can compose all this in the shot rather than in post processing. The exposure and the lighting is very well done." Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "f2.8 4 sec Thanks for all your input. I'll put another one up without the moon." Don Thierry over 2 years ago
  • "This is interesting, although I find the different lighting distracting... the tree looks like it's artificially lit and it jars a little with the moon. I have a moon/tree picture somewhere, I'll try to dig it up and post it. I'm not saying it's better, mind you..." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I really like this image. What f stop did you use? Using a small aperature ie f22 or smaller could make the moon have more of a spiked appearance and further add to the impact of the image. All in all it was well composed and well shot." Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "I agree, and either focus or motion blur is the biggest problem here. The composition could be made to work (although getting the exact position of a stranger is tricky)." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "nice attempt but the girl with the cane is not in focus and cut off part of the leg. I'm not sure the composition really works in this image although it does tell a bit of a story but I'm not sure if that was your intent." Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "Maybe I need a way to link images to other images... like a "see also" feature?" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "You can see what I saw here ... http://members.londoncameraclub.on.ca/gallery/show/676?back_to=by_member (copy and paste this into your browser)" Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "You can tell it's Brenda, because she's the one actually taking photos. Now if she would post *this* picture..." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Nice composition and amazing depth of field with sharpness maintained right to the door. You definitely hit on the right f-stop to maintain the DOF and all the intricate detail in the arches. The barrel distortion that others have mentioned is often caused by the lens and can be corrected in CS3 or using DxO." Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "Nicely done Don. I find that the walls tip out a bit at the bottom of the image which can be corrected in Photoshop. Overall, it's a very pleasing image." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I really like the height and feeling of depth with minimal distortion, the windows on the left are blown out and it looks bright enough you could have reduced the exposure slightly to remove the distraction. Great detail and sharpness. Hermitage?" Bill BoswellInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Again a nice sharp image with great DOF. Standing a little more to the right may have helped balance the image a little more but I'm not sure how much time you had to shoot the image. Was this handheld or with a tripod? The people on the left between the columns are distracting but could be removed in PS. There appears to be lots of light in the image allowing you to be able to shoot with a small enough aperature to maintain the DOF. You could possibly have decreased the exposure a bit in order limit the reflections and less blowing of highlights in the windows. If you shot RAW then you may be able to do some of this in PS." Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "Interesting building and columns. Wondering what caused the blur on the left by the lower railing?" Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "nice sharp image where it counts in the eyes and nose. Need to compose a little differently in order to not cut off the ears of the dog. The person in the background distracts as does the fence on the left. Would suggest posing the dog in a way so that you get a different non-distracting background. Not sure if that was possible when you took this image as there may not have been a neutral background available. One option would be to have the person in the background turn their back to the camera and use the back of their shirt as a backdrop but that may not mean the the dog will stay put." Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "nice reflection shot-nice low perspective adds to shot--looks a little out of focus" Stephen YuleInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I have a 19-inch LCD, runs at 1280x1024. I think you could pick one up these days for under $300. I think I paid $600 a couple of years ago. Widescreens are all the rage now." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Frase ...what screen resolution do you use? I can never see the full image without scrolling which makes it difficult to see the same thing I do in photoshop when cropping and image." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "very nice, I particularly like the little bits of snow kicked up by the paws. Needs a slightly closer crop, though." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Nice good colour Brenda... Indeed, was a friendly one at that!" Ross Blakey over 2 years ago
  • "This is rather nice. There's some colour blooming in the water reflections and a grainy cloud top right, colours or exposure have been over-boosted. This image would be easy to mask off into sections to tweak the exposure differently in each." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "This is a good image using photoshop. I don't think I would have recognized that a background had been placed in if you hadn't told me. The lighting is perfect. And it doesn't hurt any that the tombstone name is perfect for the image." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I'd like to see the result from Noiseware, even with the grid." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Always a skeptic til I try something ... I downloaded Noiseware (free version - places grid on final image) and WOW. Thanks for the info guys. Now I just need to figure out which vendor provides the best app." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Interesting shot. The pixelation is digital noise which is always more evident in shadow or underexposed areas of the image. Have you tried Noise Ninja or Define 2 to see if that would clean it up" Bob Steer over 2 years ago
  • "What a neat shot! <Puts on pedantic hat.> Yes,pixelated is a word, but I don't think that's what this is. If the original was a bit underexposed then I think it's "posterization" caused by boosting the dark areas too much, bringing out the digital noise." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Fraser, this image was taken in early morning light and the biggest adjustment I did to it was to skew the top out, to enhance the wide angle lense effect. I did a little more sharpening to it than I normally do. I think I shot it with a polarizer as well. " David RobinsonInfo over 2 years ago
  • "This image is very striking... I'd love to hear more details about how you did the colours." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "The concerned look on the young boys face along with the mark below his right eye present a wonderful feeling about this image. I'm glad you didn't remove the mark - it adds greatly. I'm pleased to see it in monachrome as colour may have taken away from the wonderful details. Although the boy is perfectly centered with balanced weight on both sides, I find the girl on the right to be a little close to the edge. If possible, I may have placed the boy a little more to the left ... giving him more space to look into and more space for the girl in the back. Overall this is a great image." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I really liked this image, very sharp and natural, great detail in the sand, I think it deserved better that 15th place. But I guess you can't argue with democracy..." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Colours have been nicely boosted but not too much. However, background trees seem tilted to the right. I know, I sound like a broken record." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Well, I would move 6" to the right and then shift the lense to the left .... but what ever works to get a more symetrical image...." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "It would be 6" to the left, wouldn't it? :-)" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "The detail is amazing Dave. I would agree with Fraser .... maybe just stepping 6" to the right would have made this image truly symmetrical." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "This is a very well-defined image, but it bothers me that it's slightly tilted to the right, and the peak of the foreground arch isn't aligned with the background window." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Canon 100 macro and flash, this did poorly in club comp but very well in the salon" Bill NiessenInfo over 2 years ago
  • "How did you get this close? Macro lens?" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Nice tight shot. Good expression. No sign of red-eye. I might like it a little softer." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "This is beautifully sharp, but maybe a tad over-saturated? She looks like she is wearing lipstick. Maybe she *is* wearing lipstick?" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "The orange thing is an antenna for the tracking collar. I entered this image in a contest for an add photo for tracking collars." Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "nice action shot with good DOF and exposure......... it has more visual impact if you clone out the eye distracting red leash and crop some off the top, sides to about 1" out from ears and the bottom to the broken snow. Happy new year and good shooting." Paul GarnerInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Frost shots can get boring after a while, but this one is unique and interesting. Background is a little distracting, but that would be easy enough to fix. "Well seen", I think they say." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Nice capture of the shadows and the light. I find the building leaning back so a little straightening in Picasa or Photoshop might be considered." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Actually, no part of the image is sharp, so I suspect motion blur is part of the problem. Handheld macro shots are hard." Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I think the camera was a little to close to the subject and was not able to focus. Try manual focus or move back a bit and then crop the image for the final photo." Brenda Fee-PerkinsInfo over 2 years ago
  • "The lens was a Sigma 80-400 at 400mm, The distance was about 100yds. I had about five seconds to take the image." Hugh Fitzmorris over 2 years ago
  • "nice shot--nice looking buck--how long did he stare you down" Stephen YuleInfo over 2 years ago
  • "that's one fine capture Hugh...... what lens were you using or did he let you get close? I like the way the deer's color stands out in contrast to the snow and barren vegetation." Paul GarnerInfo over 2 years ago
  • "interesting concept and visually interesting........... well spotted." Paul GarnerInfo over 2 years ago
  • "I prefer the overall look of the other image, but I really like the twinkly effect of the lights in the distance in this one. In the other image, some lights are too close and overpowering. The reflections on the water here are also better. Perhaps a shot from lower, through the fence, to extend the reflections further into the frame?" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
  • "good diagonal lead in and the filter is effective and really adds visual impact and I like those streaks that go into the water....... lot of uninteresting black space on R side.......I'd crop to just a little beyond the rays as they hit the water and a little off the L to get rid of shadow on fence...... playing with the saturation in PS gives some very interesting possibilities." Paul GarnerInfo over 2 years ago
  • "Nice and sharp, and the even lighting suits the subject. I think it's cropped a little too tightly, though. Church is also leaning to the right. Perhaps crop vertically on the church?" Fraser McCrossanInfo over 2 years ago
