"I found this piece of handmade paper in Ottawa a few months ago and thought it might make an interesting background for a table top shot. Here I scanned it on teh flat bed scanner and then just placed a slightly transparent image over te picture of the paper. I debated about the edge a bit but decided it made a decent frame. "

"Great texture patterns and colour, the base of round rocks is a pleasing contraast to all of the sharp and straight lines. The green just adds a touch of warmth to an otherwise stark image."

"Wonderfully sharp capture of the duck, I am not sure of all of the spce in front of him, we have a mixed lighting situation here, the evening sun on the duck, with the large leaf being in the cooler shade light from the sky, it makes the elements seem disconnected."

"Amazing composition, it is confusion with strong graphic lines, The staricase is framed by patterns that are opposites, lines on one side curves on the other. This is an image that the stong HDR effect enhances. Only knit pick is the lense flair in the middle, it distracts me from the wonderful textures and colours. Still, wish I had taken it! "

"a very strong moody image, terrific lighting and tones. My only suggestion would be to clone out the 2 black spots on the middle right to keep the attention on the boat. A great image."

"The prominance of the dark sky is well chosen ad the primary element in the photo. It imparts information and more importantly impact asd the viewer anticipates the changing nature of the weather at that moment. The farm buildings only act in a supporting role to give some sense of place and time."

"This is a simple design which is good because that simplicity draws attention to the rainbow which is delicate and would not be able tocompete successfully against other elements. "

"Including the entire white cloud and allowing blue sky above to show gives a lot of information about the atmosphere which is of great interest and emphasizes the rainbow. The barn on the left is unnecessary and does not add to the photo. Rather it pulls attention away from the rainbow."

"Mimi- Great photograph. The strong vertical and horizontal lines give strength to the design. Although there is a vast amount of sky space which seems at first glance to be unused space, it is in fact all very useful to the overall impact of the image. "

"This is a strong symitrcal design as it should be for this subject. the echo of a figure behind the main figue adds some mystery to the image. It would be a stronger image if the subject was looing at the camera rather than upwards."

"The square format is a good choice for the main subject. It creats some tension between the square of the format and circular shape of the flower. The dark background is well chosen to make the white flower have more visual impact. "

"Theo - This is an excellent photo of the mallard. Capture of the winging in the forward position gives a lot of information about the flight paterns of mallards. The soft focus on the wings is appropriate to give the image a realistic, but not static, impression of flight. Maybe the head coould be a bit sharper. The tip of the feet just touching the frame informs the viewer how close the mallard was to you and also brings the mallard close into the frame "

"Theo- You have a great pose of the eagle against the blue sky. You can make it a stronger image if you remove the pine tree branches at the back of the eagle. Try to make the head area a bit sharper as this is the main area of interest. "

"Pattern of the planes forms a good triangle and the planes are well placed in the frame. There is a static feel to the image because there is nothing to indicate motion. As with many photographs, greater contrast woould create greater impact."

"The tight formation of the planes gives a feeling of danger which is why we like to watch these demonstrations. The jet trail gives a sense of movement. The planes are a bit too forward in the frame. They need space - or- place them right at the frame to imply speed and disappearance. I know that is supposed to be a no-no but it often works. "

"We were driving up the Parkway at 7am when we spotted these two on a river near a bridge. We were able to get close enough to get a few shots before they went back to grazing. I don't know where the float came from though. There wasn't anyone around that we could see."

"The strong yellow colour against the dark gree background makes for excellent separion between the figure and the ground. The drooping white leaves gives a feeling of sadness. The slightly soft focus at the bottom of the leaves also adds to the emotional impact of sadness because it emphasizes the dying stage of the flower. "

"Lovely and colourful gives a lot of appeal. Three is always a good choice. In this photo the design would be stronger if two of the girls were closer together making a 2-1 pattern, or, if the centre girl was higher in the frame creating a triangle. "

"this was done with two hotshoe flash. One in umbrella kit at left ans one with stofen diffuser at right bouncing off ceiling to try and get background out. This was my first ever experiment at lighting with hot shoe flash. I was kneeling down--therefor I may have moved when shot was done.Note for next time--sit on chair myself."

"I can kind of see the background in a couple of these shots, so I assume it is studio work, none of these shots are really focused, as well you really need to have a hair light for background seperation and some detail in the hair, lots of colour though."

"Bringing the candy( I assume) closer to the lips is a good choice as suggests the use or purpose of the candy. A better choice would be to have the girl in the centre with the candy close to her mouth because that arrangement is the strongest point in the photo. "

"Very strong and powerful rendition of the flower. The light seems to come from within the flower which suggests its life force. The groound is wonderfully soft and contrasts well with the figure. The whter light in the ground suggest light and life force. To me this image has spiritual qualities. "

"The choice of two photos adds interest that would not be there if only one image was presented. The white ground gives excellent colour separation emphasizing the colour and design of the trees. The large dark area on the left is quit heavy and draws too much attention to itself. "

"The closeup on the head has good detail and information. The attention does go to the eye where it should be. The blur on the body helps to keep attention of the head and face. The diminishing sharpness on the feathers as the eye moves away from the head works well to emphasize the the importance of the eye and head of the goose in this image. "

"Another keeper. The flow of the top petal arching over the rest of the rest of the petals holds attention and gives a feeling of gentle motion. The sharpness of the arching petal and the softer effect on the petals behind it combine to keep primary attention on the arching petal. The similarity of alternating colours and darker rendition give a uniform tone and feeling of "

"The area of darker hillside and blue water frame the main subject in this photograph well and dirests attention to the main subject which is the stadium. The large expanse of water gives information about the location of this place. Although this is a busy image the design holds attention well on the main item in the photograph. "
